3rd Grade



Dear Parents of 3rd grade,                                                                       August 11, 2015
Our 1st unit of study is going to be a higher order critical thinking and advanced communication unit called “Our National Treasures”. The students will participate in leading a tour of the USA’s national treasures, and sharing their arguments whether certain national treasures and state treasures should be preserved and protected. They will present their arguments using oral presentations, visuals and a computer generated brochure.
In this unit the students will learn that:
*park systems are supported/funded by people (taxes)
*park systems help protect fragile ecosystems of plants and animals
*the influence/support of historical figures contributed to the inception of state/national parks including public lands and spaces
*National and state parks represent a variety of our national treasures
*the survival of national treasures depends on the conservation efforts of people
