4th Grade

Dear Parents,                                                                             August 11, 2015

Our 1st unit for our 4th graders is an exciting unit on Native Americans. This higher order – critical thinking unit will have the students utilizing a variety of strategies and skills to explore the ways in which the scientific method played a key role in the survival of Native Americans. The students will also demonstrate how the scientific processes impact our own ability to survive and what it means to be a survivor!
Students will also recognize how physical features of certain geographical regions impact the survival of the people who settle there.  They will also understand:
*that physical systems have a direct effect on the human systems and animals
*such factors as adaptation, variation of behaviors etc, can impact the survival of an organism
*studying weather patterns and data over a period of time can assist in predicting weather events and inferring seasonal changes
*learn about Native American myths
*interactions between Native American and European/settlers and Native American and the U.S. government
*Native American culture and their daily life
Lastly, we will participate in a Pow-Wow to discuss the survival of various Native American cultures throughout the many regions of the United States.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you,

Chief Shams
